Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is the Steamazing! cooking method?

Steamazing!™ entrées are based on the classical French parchment cooking technique called en Papillote, literally meaning "in paper". The parchment paper used in papillote cooking may be butterfly shaped ("papillon" is French for "butterfly"), square or rectangular. This time-honored technique has been used by gourmet chefs for generations and continues to be used by some of the world's finest chefs today.

How does the food cook in a Steamazing! paper pouch?

Inside the paper pouch, ingredients steam cook in their own juices, seasonings blend together and flavors are sealed in to moist perfection. As the food cooks, it lets off steam that is captured inside the paper pouch, causing it to puff up in a dome shape.

Questions about preparation

Why shouldn't I puncture the bag prior to cooking?

In order to cook properly, the patented Steamazing! paper pouch requires a completely sealed environment. Puncturing before cooking would allow the steam to escape from the bag, interfering with the cooking process. Due to microwave and conventional oven variability, in some cases the paper pouch may open slightly at the edges to release steam pressure. This could look like a small leak and can be a normal part of the cooking process. To avoid spills, we recommend cooking Steamazing! entrées on a microwave-safe plate (in a microwave) or on a baking sheet (in a conventional oven).

I prepared a Steamazing! meal and the paper pouch opened slightly while cooking. Can I still eat the product?

Yes, as long as you cooked the entrée for the total number of minutes recommended on the package instructions (i.e. the product is fully cooked). Due to microwave and conventional oven variability, in some cases the paper pouch may open slightly at the edges to release steam pressure. This could look like a small leak and can be a normal part of the cooking process.

Are the results different if I prepare Steamazing! meals in the microwave vs. the conventional oven?

No. The results are just as amazing, whether you use the microwave or conventional oven.

How do I cook two Steamazing! pouches at once?

Microwave: Remove pouches from box. Place 2 pouches side-by-side in microwave, window side up, on a microwave-safe plate. Cook according to package instructions. Halfway through cooking time, swap pouch positions so that inside edges are now on outside of plate.

Conventional Oven: Remove pouches from box and place side-by-side, window side up, on a baking sheet. Cook according to package instructions. Do not use a toaster oven. You can use this method to prepare several entrées at once, ideal for dinner parties. Make entertaining even more fun by presenting your guests with a menu of Steamazing! entrées to select from!

Can I cook two different Steamazing! varieties at the same time?

Yes, as long as the cooking times are the same. Be sure to cook each meal for the full number of minutes recommended on the package instructions. If cooking in the microwave, don't forget to swap pouch positions halfway through cooking.

Why can't I prepare Steamazing! entrées in the toaster oven?

The Steamazing! paper pouch needs room to expand once it begins to cook. Most toaster ovens are too small for the paper pouch and may cause the paper pouch to burn.

Is it safe to use the product once it is thawed?

No. Steamazing! entrées are designed to be cooked from frozen. Keep frozen until ready to cook and cook according to package instructions.

Can I remove the pouch from the packaging before placing in the freezer?

We recommend that you keep the pouch in the packaging until you are ready to prepare it, as this helps protect the entrée and ensure maximum freshness and flavor.
